Qantas Airways, holding the distinction of being the oldest airline in the English-speaking world, began its journey in Queensland, Australia, on November 16, 1920. Founded as Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services Limited (or Qantas for short), it started with modest operations such as taxi services and pleasure flights. From humble beginnings in the outback town of Winton, Qantas has become Australia’s largest airline.
Qantas has had remarkable growth and is known internationally as a leader in long-distance travel. But it is not uncontroversial: some Australians feel it has lost at least some of the “spirit of Australia” for which is was famous.
Qantas was certified as a 4-Star Airline by Skytrax.
