Where to Stay in Santiago – Hotel Plaza

Check-in Experience

My arrival to the Hotel Plaza, Santiago was late due to my flight with Latam from Buenos Aires to Santiago. I was mildly concerned that I’d get one of the last rooms in the hotel.  I needn’t have worried, I’d been upgraded to a corner suite.

The Hotel Plaza was originally a Crowne Plaza property (as it was during my original visit).

Hotel Plaza: Rooms

The room was nicely appointed and first impressions were good. The bed was very comfortable and the linens were good quality.

I do have an IHG Rewards Club membership and, although I don’t have the highest status, the Hotel Plaza had provided a small gift bag with some snacks and a bottle of water.

Hotel Plaza: Facilities

The room offered lots of useful wardrobe space, with a proper steam iron (always a must!).

While there was an ice bucket, there was no self-help ice machine in the entire hotel. However, you could order some from room service.

There was a coffee machine and no coffee (I did manage to score some decaf coffee after some negotiation with a housekeeper the next morning).

This safe was perfect for my valuables and took my MacBook Pro with room to spare for a GoPro.

I love having a fridge in the room, even if it means I can only fit in some water and a yogurt, it makes a place feel more like home!

Hotel Plaza: Bathroom Amenities

The bathroom was spotlessly clean with a shower over bath. The included shampoos and conditioners were of fair quality.

Headline room rates at the Hotel Plaza are reasonable, given that this is a four-star hotel, with a 4.5* satisfaction rating on Google (check the latest rates here). I think that is a little generous. The room was very comfortable, but was showing its age a little. The lifts were not cleaned during my stay and, although the reception staff was very welcoming, it could take some time in line before being able to speak to a member of staff. I’ve given a Planet Patrick rating of 3.5/5 – good, but some room for improvement.
