Aegean took its first commercial flights in 1999, the same year it acquired Air Greece. It merged with Olympic Air in 2010, and went on to join Star Alliance.

Aegean is ranked as a 4 star airline and achieved 2nd place in the 2023 Best Regional Airlines in the world (ratings by Skytrax).
